Team Teach prefers to employ a whole staff holistic approach with a follow up post repair, reflect, de-brief response for both staff and service users concerned. Emphasis being on “calm” communication and defusing skills that work best for the specific individual concerned, acknowledged within the care, behaviour or education plans.

Physical responses are underpinned by values and principles that fit within a culture and ethos of positive educative care. There is an emphasis on individual human rights, responsibilities, choices and consequences.
The key message being that 95% OR MORE of all incidents should be managed without recourse to physical interventions. Following training there should be a decrease in the amount of incidents involving the use of physical interventions. The emphasis is on protecting and promoting positive relationships between service providers and users.

It provides the option of introducing independent self-paced learning for participants which allows you to set program timings to suit your organisation and workforce.

Blended Learning allows 3 hours of Positive Behaviour Support – which is the initial part of any Level 1 and Level 2 course, this can now be accessed through our online learning platform, reducing face to face delivery time by 3 hours on both L1 and L2 courses.

  • If delivered by your own employer trainers:
    • $70 per participant in addition to normal course material pricing
    • Discounted pricing offered for over 100 participants (POA)
    • Approximate $275 saving per participant on relief cover cost
  • If delivered by Team Teach costs are the same as the full face-to-face delivery options detailed above

Trainer Courses

Team Teach Trainer courses are quality controlled and externally moderated. All trainers are required to update as per the re-accreditation timescales if they wish to retain their certification to teach within their employer’s organisations or District. During the following grace period (4 months) trainers can assist but not lead. Once outside of the grace period trainers are no longer validated by Team Teach to train staff.

Trainers are provided a manual with detailed lesson plans and online video (a visual record of the core competency based positive and protective handling techniques). Also, online access to the course booklet and various good practice documents and materials to aid the delivery of their own courses. Trainers are required to produce a summary evaluation report that is returned to the Managing Director of Team Teach. The evaluation report will address the critical issues of safety and the techniques being but one part of a holistic, whole setting response to behaviour support. Random sampling of training is undertaken.

Organisations and Districts are encouraged to achieve a gender balance when selecting individuals for trainer training. Ideally trainer teams should be composed of a least one male and one female. This is important when it comes to facilitating the right approach and attitude from course members.

Whilst we recommend that there are always at least 2 Trainers delivering training, Trainers can train up to 24 participants when there are no physical interventions being taught on a Level 1 course. Intermediate and Advanced trainers are permitted to train up to 12 new members of staff alone but cannot include 2-person responses. The ratio of trainers to new course members should increase on a ratio of 1:12 and two Trainers are needed for any 2-person responses.

For Advanced training this ratio drops to 2:8 / 3: 16 / 4: 24. Twenty-four is the maximum size permitted for advance modular training.

Trainers are assessed in both the theory and practical elements of the course. They become part of a ”good practice” network. Following training as staff become more confident and competent, there should be a decrease in the number of serious incidents/restraints taking place. Trainers are required to monitor the impact and effectiveness of their training.
